Here are some resources for working out some socio-emotional issues before a trip starts.
Certain surprises and conflicts can be avoided by determining what everyone actually wants out of a trip, and then finding an agreed way forward. For instance, some people might enjoy the social and high-energy times, but they also really need their alone time to fully relax. For some, it can feel awkward to assert those needs, so a protocol like this guide forces a conversation about everyone's needs in a safe way before the trip.
Managing camp responsibilities can become a point of contention if it's not openly discussed before any tensions arise. Work through the questions in this guide as a group to make sure that everyone understands their responsibility so that everyone feels that everyone is pulling their weight.
Before launching to start any whitewater trip, there's a few things you should go over as a group before getting underway.
